What The Hell Is Going On In Oregon and Washington At The Ballot Boxes?

America has come too far for this...

It was hard to believe when the headline hit my screen... 'Ballot drop box fires under investigation in Oregon, Washington' Really, how could this possibly happen. It had to be click bait. Right? That's when I saw the video footage. It was revolting. It was disgusting. It was truly unacceptable and painful to watch. How could anyone have the nerve to tamper with a ballot box? Why would someone want to deny their fellow citizens the right to vote after all America has gone through? How could this be happening in America in 2024. Then that's when it hit me...



Women in America did not have the right to vote until 1920. It took a formal 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution to give American women the fundamental right to choose who they wanted to lead them and what laws they believed in. Similarly, African Americans were technically supposed to be able to vote after the passing of the the 14th and 15th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution in 1868 and 1870 respectively to give persons 'born or naturalized in the United States' equal protections of the laws as citizens and voting rights that could not be 'denied or abridged by the United States or by any state because of race, color, or previous condition of servitude' i.e. slavery. And yet with all of this in place and essentially the end of what has been called historically a period of Reconstruction, almost 100 years later the United States had to pass the Voting Rights Act of 1965 to protect African American's right to vote from racial discrimination.



So, if you look at American history, there has always been a contingent of people who just don't believe in equal rights. They don't believe in equality or justice. They don't believe that the Constitution of the United States has been amended to protect and preserve the right of all American. For that matter, they really don't believe that all Americans have a right to pursue the American dream, to raise their children within a fair and just society, and to live peaceful live filled with joy and prosperity. These dreams and these rights somehow are only for themselves and their families. Maybe that's why they have nothing better to do than to burn ballots cast by hard working Americans who took time out of their busy lives to make an attempt at being heard. Shame on them.

And to those who have not voted. I hope this recount of American history will inspire you to not take your precious right to vote for granted. Too many people have been denied their God given right to choose who they want to lead them. Too many people have died to afford American their right to live free, vote, and pursue the American dream. Too many indeed.
